(Spring 2022): To the Parents of Hispanic/Latinx Admitted Students

Please note: this parent author has written both an English and Spanish version of their letter, as signed below.

ENGLISH VERSION

As parents, we enjoyed listening to all the positive comments from friends whose children had graduated from UVA. This positive mindset we had already developed towards the university was later confirmed as our eldest daughter, currently a senior, began her application process. Through the application we explored UVA’s high academic level, the opportunities they give students to be able to explore different options outside their chosen careers, be it in the social, sports, leadership, etc. with their different organizations. We also love how UVA values respect for others, free opinion, differences and the importance of inclusion. My daughter, who is only in her first year, has found a family that is a little different from what she expected. Working with the admissions office, she has thoroughly understood the values of the university: inclusion, the value that each person at UVA recognizes in students and the critical thinking that the university promotes. When we were in this process of getting to know the university with our daughters and we went to UVA, we found a place where the student atmosphere prevailed and everything revolved around the university and the well-being of its students!
